Good Governance

An important condition for good education is good governance. This is not always self-evident and there is a lot involved. Good governance revolves around internal and external supervision, accountability and participation. How the relationships between administrators are arranged determines how the organisation is managed and, to some extent, also its culture. This requires customisation, as every situation and organisation is unique.

Code of Good Governance

In education, the standards for good governance are set out in the Code of Good (Educational) Governance. While educational institutions are encouraged to adhere to this code, it is not a legal requirement. Good education is about responsibility, professionalism, integrity and openness. The Code of Good (Educational) Governance serves as a guideline for educational boards.

Digitisation

Education is evolving rapidly under the influence of globalisation, technological developments and digitisation, and there is an increasing focus on yields and measuring quality. This has implications for how administrators (Executive Board) and supervisors (Supervisory Board) perform their duties, and can also affect teachers, students and parents.

Part of the Code of Good (Educational) Governance is the whistleblower’s scheme and integrity code. Educational institutions can use the guidance from the code for their own regulations and codes. However, the board can regulate in its regulations and codes what is important to them and what they value. Kienhuis Legal can help you with this.
